Toaster Guy #3 is here!

Adventures in self publishing continue - Toaster Guy #3 is finally here! Not to mention a few more copies of #1 and #2. So anybody reading this looking for a copy of Jacksonville, Florida's greatest self publishing success, look no further!

My apologies for neglecting the blog lately - I've been working on some other comics stuff, totally unrelated to Toaster Guy - everyone likes ZOMBIES, right??

This is from a story called Wesley by Sabrina James Riley. A big time author and li'l ol' me illustrating her story! This will appear in a horror comics anthology called Skin Crawling Comics (I bet I mentioned it before) being put together by Rachel Pandich and featuring a bunch of talented cartoonists and writers.

Work on TG #4 continues! Anybody reading this? Hello? Hello??

Toaster Guy comic book cover #3 colored

Here it is in all its glory! There's a half dozen things I'd change about it but it's time to set it free and move on to the next thing!

Toaster Guy #3 cover art!

Here's the cover to Toaster Guy #3 - yeah, it's taken so much longer than I planned to get this issue put to bed. But actual paying work came up, and Christmastime, and my children's book... Anyway you don't care about this stuff. Here's the cover!
#4 is written and is in the process of being laid out. I am cautiously optimistic that it'll be done by the end of February. Also I have a fully pencilled zombie story that I'm waiting on approval to ink - it's appearing in a horror anthology called Skin Crawling Comics (Read more about it here) with a lot of other fantastic artists. It's one of my first times illustrating someone else's story, but the writer, Sabrina James Riley, wrote an excellent script that was a breeze to illustrate.

Anyway - more regular updates resuming next week, I promise! Thanks for reading!

Need your help!

Greetings! I'm trying to iron out the kinks in the TG #4 script, and I've been out of town a few days, so my apologies for the lack of updates! But this one's big - here's the project I've been working on for the past several months, in addition to Toaster Guy. This project is designed to help inner city kids and children from other lower socio-economic groups deal with emotional issues not currently addressed by other children's programming. Here it is: Buddy and Bird!

My business partner, Roderick "Odd Rod" Borisade, and I have been working tirelessly to bring this to fruition. We're trying to raise funds thru Indiegogo (here's the link to our campaign) to have a 22 minute animated / live action pilot filmed. Rod wrote the original story and I've created and designed around a dozen characters, including the title characters...

...And several additional characters...
...Not to mention designing and building the puppets...

Do me a favor and check out our YouTube video if you have four and a half minutes, and check out the Indiegogo campaign. Even if you aren't able to contribute, please spread the link far and wide - the more people who see it, the better our chances of making our goal, and making this project a reality.

BUT BACK TO Toaster Guy! Issue three is in the can - I've gotten some feedback on the digital copy I posted several days back and I've made a few edits. I'll be submitting it to publishers come the New Year, so any tips you might have as to potential publishers, I'm all ears....!

Number 3 is done!

Yeah that's right - #3 is finally done! Here's a preview: Check it out! If you see any typos or anything, please let me know.

I'm gonna take a few days to breathe and work on some other things before diving headfirst into the final issue.

If you do take a gander at the PDF, please let me know what you think. Artwise, writing, lettering - every piece. I live and die on thoughtful criticism!

Thanks!

Plugging away...

...Still wrapping up the shading and lettering on #3. Sometimes, I'll look at indie comics on the shelves and I'll wonder "how do those guys do it?" I mean, just drawing takes me forever - then shading, and lettering, and doing a cover, and updating this blog, plus freelance work as it comes along...

So I was interested to see this article on Comics Beat: Creator-owned comics don't pay much! It's a labor of love, and not much else. Plus, Jim Zub (the guy in the article) hires artists to do the lettering and coloring and inking and stuff. Here, it's just me. And not having a day job, I don't have the funds lying around (laying around?) to pay a colorist, an inker, etc.

Issue #4 is written, for the most part, and I'll be diving right in after #3 is done. And then? That's it! I'll shop it around and see if anybody is interested in publishing it on a bigger scale, or maybe I can get some other comics work out of it. I do have a couple small things I'm working on for other folks, so I won't be stopping all comics work or anything - far from it. But the saga of Toaster Guy will be done... for now.

Thanks for continuing to stick with me thru this! Stay tuned for more art!
